On the 19th April, Valerie was at the Perth International Terminal to meet high school students from across Western Australia before they embarked on the annual Premier's ANZAC tour. Valerie presented three copies of The House that was Built in a Day, signed by herself and Barbara McGuire (the illustrator), to the students.
Two copies of the book were destined for France: one to a primary school, the College Jacques Brei at Villers-Bretonneux, and the second to the Australia Museum next to the primary school. Hundreds of Australian soldiers, some who were Gallipoli survivors, (and some who were soldiers from Western Australia's 11th Battalion), fought and died saving Villers-Bretonneux in 1918. Hence, this story is of interest to French children.

Such is the significance of this story that there was much media interest in the book in the days leading up to the launch. Valerie gave several radio interviews and the book was featured in newspapers, including the West Australian. On 24th April the book was promoted on the Channel 9 news with a group of school children reading from it on the steps of the cottage.
